Greetings from the Language Arts and Reading Classroom!
This week is Red Ribbon Week and we will be celebrating with many special events so be sure to watch the announcements for more information about that. We are also very excited to be joining a Live Webcast on Wednesday with Taylor Swift where she will be sharing with students about reading in her life!
There is also an early dismissal this week due to parent-teacher conferences.
Want to know the secret to getting an A in this class? For many of you, all you need is a little organization but here are some other tips...
Reading: fill out your reading log COMPLETELY each week with a parent or teacher signature THEN be sure to turn it in on Monday at the beginning of class. Also, pay attention during SCR and participate in cooperative comprehension activities as well as work hard on vocabulary.
Language: Study your spelling words, study for DOL quizzes from your Journal, and put a little effort into your writing.
SCR: We will work on another read aloud story this week, completing our usual routine of learning vocabulary, listening to a read aloud/think aloud, a cooperative comprehension activity, and a vocabulary quiz on Friday. Be sure to bring your book to EVERY class.
ADVANCED READERS: You will continue with another assignment in your novel along with posts to the advanced reading blog. Remember, your work is due on Thursday at the beginning of class so what you do not finish in class by Wednesday will be homework. We will have our first Lit Club meeting the first week of November.
Language Arts: 6th Graders will be selecting which early childhood memory they would like to write about and begin their rough draft. The 7th Graders will also be selecting a topic and mapping out memory and sensory details then writing a rough draft.
NEW THIS WEEK!!!!!! Each week, on Monday, you will be given a writing assignment that will be due on Friday. We will look for different skills each week so be sure to listen carefully to directions for the topic and expectations. This will be separate from other writing assignments that we focus on in class and will be completed on your OWN time.
